Hiring at the joint venture plant has begun, with new jobs being posted on joint venture website.


JEFFERSONVILLE, Ohio (February 29, 2024) – LG Energy Solution and Honda today marked Leap Day by erecting the final structural steel beam at the joint venture’s new EV battery production facility being constructed near Jeffersonville, Ohio. This major construction milestone comes almost one year to the day after the groundbreaking that took place for the over 2 million square feet facility that is expected to be completed by the end of 2024.

Projected to reach an overall investment of $4.4 billion and create some 2,200 new jobs, the joint venture aims to start mass production of pouch-type lithium-ion batteries in 2025, to be supplied to Honda auto plants to produce* EVs to be sold in North America.

“Today is an important milestone for the LG Energy Solution-Honda team as the structure of the EV battery production facility takes its final shape,” said Bob Lee, CEO of the LG Energy Solution-Honda joint venture. “One year ago, we were breaking ground in an empty field and today we can see the finish line for this project, and we want to thank everyone working at the site and the local community who have made this possible.”

Hiring Underway
In addition to the construction progress, hiring is underway for the plant. A variety of engineering and support positions are currently posted on the company website, with information about technician and production roles expected to be announced in the coming months.

JEFFERSONVILLE, Ohio (June 20, 2023) – LG Energy Solution and Honda marked another major milestone of construction for its new joint venture EV battery facility this week when the first steel beam was installed at the plant site in Jeffersonville, Ohio. The companies have committed to invest $3.5 billion, with plans to create 2,200 jobs, in the over 2 million square feet facility, with an overall investment projected to reach $4.4 billion.
“There are many beginnings when you form a new company to build a new facility, but today is an important milestone for the LGES-Honda team, for the local community and everyone working at the site to create our new EV battery facility,” said Bob Lee, CEO of the new LGES-Honda joint venture. “Construction is on track and we look forward to reaching many more milestones on the way to starting production of EV batteries in 2025.”
The new joint venture facility is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2024, with an annual production capacity of approximately 40GWh. The joint venture aims to start mass production of pouch-type lithium-ion batteries in 2025, to be supplied exclusively to Honda auto plants to produce* EVs to be sold in North America.

JEFFERSONVILLE, Ohio (May 22, 2023) — Honda and LG Energy Solution (LGES) will host a community barbecue on June 3 at the Fayette County Airport in Washington Court House to thank local leaders and residents for welcoming the new joint venture battery plant to Jeffersonville, to provide more information about the future operations and to meet and greet the leaders of the new facility that broke ground on Feb. 28, 2023.

The community event will take place from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. EDT and include a complimentary barbecue meal, visits from local and state government officials, and displays providing information about future job opportunities. Company officials will be available to answer questions about the facility.

“We are grateful for the warm welcome our new joint venture battery plant has received from Fayette County and we look forward to meeting more of our new neighbors at this community barbecue,” said Bob Lee, CEO of the Honda and LGES JV company. “We hope our new neighbors will bring their families and friends to learn more about our new manufacturing facility.”

With a commitment from Honda and LGES to invest $3.5 billion in the new facility and overall investment projected to reach $4.4 billion, the new joint venture plans to create 2,200 jobs to produce lithium-ion batteries to power electric vehicles (EVs) built at Honda plants in North America. Honda previously announced that it will begin EV production with the establishment of an EV Hub in Ohio, including three existing auto plants. Construction is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2024, with mass production to begin in 2025.

Honda Manufacturing in Ohio

Honda has produced automobiles in Ohio for over 40 years, beginning in November 1982 with the start of automobile production at the Marysville Auto Plant.

Honda established U.S. manufacturing operations in Marysville in 1979 with the start of motorcycle production. Today, Honda employs more than 15,000 associates in Ohio across five plants with total capital investment of more than $13 billion and the capacity to produce 680,000 Honda and Acura automobiles, 1.18 million automobile engines, and over 1 million automobile transmissions and two-motor hybrid systems, using domestic and globally sourced parts.
